Giveaway: I Wanna’ Make A Splash!

It’s summertime in Texas, which means I’m one HOT mama (literally!) and I could use a great way to cool off … without breaking the bank. My fingers are crossed (oh, the toes, too) that I can snag the North Texas Kids Splashfest fun pack for the whole family.

This awesome giveaway includes four passes to Splashfest, a water-filled family expo at Hawaiian Falls in The Colony, and a rockin’ cabana! Best part(s), well in addition to the total greatness that is free stuff? Radio Disney, 20 family-friendly vendors and Sci-Tech Discovery Center (hello, poolside science for the kiddos? Sweet!) will all be there.

Event Details:
North Texas Kids Splashfest
benefiting Sci-Tech Discovery Center
Hawaiian Falls in The Colony
Saturday, July 18
11 am-4 pm
tickets are $13.99--$5 off the regular adult price--plus, $3 from each ticket goes straight to Sci-Tech; purchase online at www.northtexaskids.com

While I’d love to win the golden ticket, I’m a sucker for dishing details—especially when other mamas can benefit. So, here goes. If you, too, would like a chance to soak in the sun, fun and latest in parenting support courtesy of North Texas Kids magazine, simply copy this entry (including headline and the above link to the pub) and repost it on your own mama blog, then shoot the magazine an e-mail at info@northtexaskids.com to let them know you’re participating (be sure to include a link to your post).

Next Thursday, a winner will be drawn from the “inbox” and notified via e-mail … it’s that easy!

Good luck ladies, may the “hottest” mama win. ;)

i heart boys

The ways things work, rocks! This super cool chica, Linda Marie Ford, whom I interviewed way back when for a magazine piece, shot me an e-mail. Which reminded me that I hadn't peeked in on her amazing site, It's Good to Be Queen in awhile (she celebrates being the mama to three boys with a super-sized helping of humor - a must read!).

While nosing around, I found a link to another boy-hearting mama, who, in her infinite wisdom, decided to create a line of tees, boymom, dedicated to the crazy-chaotic role that is being a mom to a testosterone-filled bambino. And, I'm in love and totally kicking myself for not beating her to the punch! HA! Check out her uber-cute line of tees at boymomdesigns.com.

I heart the "boy moms rock," one.

love it!

there are two sites that i've recently become ADDICTED to and I just had to share...

MUNCHIES & MUSIC ... online, who wouldn't fall head over heels

No. 1
Hungry Girl rocks! This chick (and her high-taste, low-cal food crew) have figured out fab food finds, recipes and nuggets of info that keep you eating healthy, without feeling cheated. I signed up for the daily e-newsletter and it is always chock-full of yumminess.

No. 2
Pandora Radio is greatness. Pure. Simple. Greatness. This online station lets you play DJ ... without that whole music genius thing required. You just type in either the band or song you're lovin' at the moment and then the program generates a custom station for you with songs that are similar to the genre you picked. I highly, highly recommend the Train station (the band, not an actual choo choo!) and Secondhand Serenade.

two thumbs up!

Two things...

one you have to see, just because it's a love story that rocks ... the kind that makes you want to hug and kiss your kiddo until he screams "get away, you freak" rather than the kind that makes you want to hug and kiss your hubby until he says, "How you dooo-in?" (although there's some of that, too.)

the other you have to read, simply beacuse it inspires you to jot down the total hair-pulling, mind-spinning craziness that is motherhood. Afterall, if you don't chronicle it now, you'll never be able to prove to your kiddo (or yourself) that some of this wild, random stuff actually happened (hello, your high-school girlfriend-is-coming-to-meet-us-for-the-first-time blackmail).

Shoppin’ in Cyberspace

B.C. (Before Cooper), I wasn’t much of an online shopper. But now, with the winter weather rollin’ in and never knowing whether the babe will love or loathe the frantic excitement of a Christmas spending spree, I’m finding myself lured more and more to the ease of the Internet. Plus, I’m a ridiculous creature of habit and I always frequent the same stores, meaning the same selection of gifts. Online, however, I can google and yahoo and dogpile my way out of my proverbial box and find great ideas that aren’t clogging the Target shelves (my favorite shopping haunt). Bonus? My little guy doesn’t have to suffer, see picture (this is Coop, all pink-cheeked from going from 30-degree temps into 100-degree temps in an overcrowded department store. Sorry, buddy!).

As I’ve been inspired to give the gift less given this Christmas, I’ve compiled some of my fav sites (with the help of fellow co-worker and online-a-holic, Wilson) in an effort to keep the spirit of the shopping season flowing: Share your insider secrets with other shoppers as you would have them share with you (hint! hint!).

For a collection of ideas that can be customized based on your giftee’s gender, personality and interest, visit Gifts.com.

Got a world traveler on your list? Check out Flight001.com. I snagged an incredibly cool gift for my lil’ sis and brother-in-law on this site.

For inspired ideas, swing by Uncommongoods.com.

If personalization is the name of the game, try Zazzle.com,, Shutterfly.com, or Snapfish.com.

And last, but certainly not least, if you’re looking for that completely random “present” (think yodeling pickles – hecka yeah!), you have to see McPhee.com.

Happy Hunting!
