Divorce Court

Webster defines divorce as “the action or an instance of legally dissolving a marriage” and with the “I do nots” flooding the court system (the divorce rate in the U.S. hovers around 50% - yowzer!), it’s apparent that this is not merely a word, it’s an epidemic (although not necessarily a bad one in many cases), with effects lasting longer than most could ever imagine.

I am 28 and my husband is 29, and you’d think the fact that we’re both pushing the big 3-0 would minimize the fallout of our parents’ respective divorces (both of which occurred within months of each other in 2001).
But, now that we have Cooper, it has actually intensified the issue for us.

Cooper has 7 grandparents, 11 great grandparents, and 20+ aunts and uncles each of which surround him with massive amounts of love (and for that we couldn’t be more thankful). But here’s the tough part: Chris and I are completely and utterly overwhelmed with the amount of guilt and stress we heap upon our shoulders at having to divvy up the time we spend with each of them. No matter what we do or how hard we try, we always feel as if we are shortchanging someone — including Coop and ourselves.
Since our little guy is the first grandchild on each side(well, for our immediate family), this only magnifies our desire for everyone to feel equally included in his life.

Our little family is completely blessed by the super-sized helping of love and support, but I pray daily that Chris and I can figure out a way to maximize family time and minimize the guilt.
