Unleashing the Redneck

This weekend was a first for “The Falks.” We went to a Halloween party together! Though we’ve been on again, off again since we were 16 … this was the first time we’d ever donned costumes and headed out to a Fright Night Fiesta.

Aunt Jess thankfully rescheduled her Saturday night date so she could baby-sit Coop while Chris and I got all dolled up as an 80s redneck-wedding couple for a bash being thrown by a coworker.

While I was putting our gear together, it occurred to me just how naturally Chris and I come by the rednecky part, lol.

  • Wedding dress worn during first marriage (to someone else – gasp!)?: CHECK!
  • Ragin’ red lipstick and fishnets?: CHECK! CHECK!
  • Party Patrol T-shirt with the arms cut off?: CHECK!
  • Flip-flops, camo cap & inability to keep clothes on (the hubby lost his ’do rag, mullet wig & tee about 2 hours into the party)?: CHECK! CHECK! CHECK!

What can I say? We’re from Abilene, TX … think it’s in the water. =)

To make the redneck mission complete — random of all random, 6-degrees of separation kind of thing — you have to bump into someone you know from high school at a party not being held anywhere near your hometown and being hosted by someone you’ve known for all of 5 minutes: C-H-E-C-K!

About 20 minutes after we arrived, this “doctor” looks at me and says, “Tessa?” It turns out that the doc was actually Coty, this crazy kid I graduated with forever ago. Bonus? He had a friend there, Bilberry, who diploma’ed out a year after us. It was insane bumping into them!

It was a great night out sans baby (we only called the baby-sitter a half dozen times, unlike the full dozen like the last couple’s night we had – Progress!), but I’m still looking forward to the punkin' patch outing on Halloween with our little Halloweenie.

A close-up of the happy 80s redneck couple. Aww romance. =)

Chris with fellow bulldog, the doctor, aka Coty.

Me gettin' a quick pic with Horns, aka Wylie Alum, Bilberry.

And finally, the hubby sans half his costume. Soooo proud. =)
